Indiana Dunes National Park!
Hats off to Indiana Dunes National Park
Hats off to Indiana Dunes National Park, a national treasure within an hour of the Chicago metropolitan area! We visited on August 14, 2017 with Bruce Rowe, Supervisory Park Ranger and Public Information Officer. Because of its accessibility to urban areas, schools can bring children on field trips, providing many inner-city kids with their first forest experience.
There are several beautiful beaches, and our favorite is the beach at Mount Baldy, the highest dune at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. The beach has a gorgeous view of a gigantic sand dune and spectacular Lake Michigan. To reach it, follow the trail to the left of Mount Baldy — an easy climb for adults, though it would be a challenge carrying children and beach equipment. Enjoy your visit to Indiana Dunes!
