St. Croix Chippewa Tribe Celebrates 2026 Graduates at Zhashagiins Event Center

On May 8, 2026, the St. Croix Chippewa Tribe of Wisconsin gathered at Zhashagiins, the tribal event center in Siren, Wisconsin, to celebrate the academic achievements of several dozen graduates. Family members, tribal leaders, and community supporters filled the room to honor those who had worked hard to reach this milestone.
Among the speakers was Brooke Gonzales, a St. Croix tribal member and PhD candidate at the University of Hawaii. Her words of encouragement set the tone for the celebration: “If you can make it this far, there is no limit to what you can do.”
Tribal Chairman Conrad St. John also addressed the graduates with words of pride and encouragement: “Reach for the stars. Be proud of who you are — we are all very proud of you.”
Dr. Odawa White, Tribal Education Director, reflected on what it takes to reach graduation day: “It takes a lot of grit, resilience, and determination for a student to graduate — and it’s important to celebrate.”
Each graduate received an eagle feather and a monetary stipend in recognition of their achievement. The Brown Boys played drums for the celebration.
